Who we are

The Engineering Council is the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession. The Engineering Council is a registered charity, number 286142, whose registered office is 5th Floor Woolgate Exchange, 25 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5HA.

What is personal data?

Personal data is any information that can be used to identify an individual.

What personal data do we collect?

The personal data that the Engineering Council collects and processes about you with respect to the Standards Review Consultation will include some or all of the following:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Who you are representing when answering the questions in the consultation
• If you are representing a professional engineering institution, which institution you are representing
• Your registration status
• Whether we may we contact you at a later date to discuss further the issues covered in this consultation using the email address you provided
• ­Your employment situation
• If you are employed: your occupational area; how many employees your company has; your main area of responsibility; which countries you have worked during the past 12 months.
• Your response to the consultation (this is considered personal data as, in some instances, it could be possible to identify you from your response)

What we use your personal data for

We will use your personal data to:

• Analyse your response to the consultation so that we can understand and respond to the views of our stakeholders;
• Share your responses to the consultation with Engineering Council staff and working group members;
• ­Contact you to discuss further the issues covered in this consultation, if required, but only if you contact us to indicate that you are willing for this to happen.

What is the basis for processing your data?

Our basis for processing your personal data is legitimate interest. The Engineering Council is the regulatory body for the engineering profession and publishes the Standard that describes how professional registration can be achieved through the demonstration of competence and commitment and what processes are in place to facilitate this. The Standard is subject to periodic review and inviting stakeholders to contribute is an essential part of the review.

Special or sensitive data

The Engineering Council does not collect or process special categories of personal data or sensitive data such as race, ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, etc.

Data Security and Sharing

All data held by the Engineering Council is held securely. Your personal data will be passed to dotmailer Ltd for processing on behalf of the Engineering Council.

Retention

The Engineering Council will store your personal data until it has completed the Standards Review or until 31 March 2020, whichever is earlier.

Your rights as a data subject

At any point while we are in possession of or processing your personal data, you, the data subject, have the following rights:

• Right of access – you have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you.
• Right of rectification – you have a right to correct data that we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.
• Right to be forgotten – in certain circumstances you can ask for the data we hold about you to be erased from our records.
• Right of portability – you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation.
• Right to object – you have the right to object to certain types of processing such as direct marketing.
• Right to restriction of processing – where certain conditions apply to have a right to restrict the processing.
• Right to object to automated processing, including profiling – you have the right to be object to the legal effects of automated processing or profiling.
• Right to judicial review: in the event that the Engineering Council refuses your request under rights of access, we will provide you with a reason as to why. You have the right to complain

Complaints

In the event that you wish to make a complaint about how your personal data is being processed by the Engineering Council you have the right to lodge a complaint;
