Following a EUR-ACE® review in 2014, the Engineering Council has been given an unconditional extension by the Administrative Council of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE). The extension is valid for five years, until 31 December 2018.

EUR-ACE® is a framework and accreditation system that provides a set of standards that identifies high quality engineering degree programmes in Europe and abroad. Award of the EUR-ACE® label demonstrates that the learning outcomes and criteria specified for accreditation of UK engineering degree programmes meet the standards set out in the EUR-ACE® framework.

UK universities may apply for a label for any degree holding accredited status since November 2006. The EUR-ACE® Bachelor label may be awarded to engineering degrees accredited for Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer, provided they have a minimum workload equivalent to at least 180 European Credits (ECTS). The EUR-ACE® Masters label can be awarded to accredited integrated (MEng) or standalone masters programmes.

The awarding body, ENAEE, charges a fee per programme. This lasts for the duration of the current accreditation period, up to a maximum of 5 years. The label fee per programme is £150+VAT (VAT applicable at current rate).

As part of the Engineering Council’s major project to replace its database of accredited programmes, all programmes listed will include information about international recognition, such as inclusion in the FEANI INDEX and whether a EUR-ACE® label has been issued. The first phase of this project is due to launch towards the end of 2016.
