Next round of consultation of the Standards Review

Published: 13/05/2019

Progress is continuing on the current Standards Review, with another round of consultation due to take place shortly.

A first consultation exercise in 2018 sought stakeholder views on the documents that make up the Engineering Council’s Standards in order to understand how they are used and any ways in which they could be enhanced. Stakeholders were also asked about the broad principles that make up the foundation of the Standard and how best to address issues in the future. This round of consultation will focus on the drafts created as a result of that feedback.

One of the most significant changes contained in these new drafts is the renaming of the ‘Approval of Qualifications and Apprenticeships Handbook’ (AQAH), to the ‘Approval and Accreditation of Qualifications and Apprenticeships Handbook’ (AQAH). This change aims to reflect the extension of the content to include guidance on approval or accreditation of higher apprenticeships and initial professional development provision.

Once feedback on the redrafted documents has been considered, a further stage of the process will include a review of the format and structure of the documents, and a Diversity and Inclusion review to ensure that the language used is as accessible as possible for users of Standards documents.
