The Engineering Council has developed Guidance on Security for engineers and technicians, with the support of the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and in close collaboration with the professional engineering institutions. This guidance sets out six key principles to guide engineers and technicians in identifying, assessing, managing and communicating issues about security. It also describes their associated responsibilities to society.

A high profile launch event is taking place at the House of Commons on 19 May 2016, hosted by Rt Hon John Hayes MP, who will give the keynote address. Other speakers include Engineering Council Chairman, Rear Admiral Nigel Guild CB, Terry Morgan CBE, Chairman of Crossrail, who will provide insight into the importance of security for employers, and the Head of CPNI, who will emphasise the link between the guidance and ongoing national infrastructure security. Attendees include representatives from institutions, employers, MPs, apprentices and other stakeholders. More information about the guidance will be available after the launch.
