Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme wins Business in the Community Race Equality Award

Published: 12/07/2019

The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) has been rewarded for its efforts to increase diversity in the engineering profession with the Race Equality Award at Business in the Community’s (BITC) Responsible Business Awards, held at the Royal Albert Hall.

RAEng was recognised for its Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme (GEEP), supported by the Engineering Council, which works with engineering graduates from diverse backgrounds and connects them with industry professionals and mentors to increase the number who transition into engineering employment.

The Engineering Council contributes to these events by explaining the role of professional registration in starting and developing engineering careers, including highlighting the benefits of joining the Register. One of the Engineering Council’s Strategic Objectives is to ensure that no barriers exist for anyone appropriately qualified to become professionally registered, through championing and supporting programmes that support diversity and inclusion across the profession.

The Responsible Business Awards are hosted by BITC and champion the most inspiring businesses who are taking steps to create more inclusive workplaces, build stronger communities and tackle our biggest environmental challenges.

GEEP events in 2019 will be held in Birmingham and London between September and December 2019 and recent graduates can register online to take part. Employers interested in being involved should email diversityteam@raeng.org.uk.
