The Engineering Council’s 2017 Annual General Meeting will take place on 15 June. At this year’s meeting Professor Chris Atkin CEng FRAes will take on the role of Chairman as the organisation’s outgoing Chairman, Rear Admiral Nigel Guild CB CEng FIET FIMarEST FIMA FREng, steps down after six productive and successful years in the role.
Professor Atkin, who is Professor of Aeronautical Engineering at City, University of London, joined the Engineering Council’s Board of Trustees in 2015 and previously sat on the organisation’s Regulation Standards Committee.
He says: “I look forward to the opportunity of becoming the Engineering Council’s next Chairman and working to reinforce the trust that society has in our registered engineers and technicians. I will look to build on the organisation’s existing strengths and relationships and also hope to build momentum around public attitudes to engineering education.”
The AGM will also mark the launch of the Engineering Council’s new Strategic Plan, which will set out key work streams for the period from 2018 to 2020. The plan will place a renewed emphasis on meeting future registrants’ needs and delivering public benefit. This will include important activities such as continuing engagement with key stakeholders, particularly engineering employers, developing globally recognised standards and promoting the Register.
